Real Madrid WAGs love Vietnamese food

The wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of Real Madrid FC stars were enchanted with Vietnamese dishes when they arrived in Germany for a European Champion League match between Real Madrid FC and Bayern Munich FC.

They visited a Vietnamese restaurant while waiting for their men competing against their German rivals.

WAGs of key players of Real Madrid FC took the time in Munich to taste delicious food in the Vietnamese restaurant run by an old lady, Thuy, who has been residing in Germany for thirty years.

Scheduled trip

Following the guidance of Lena Gercke, striker Khedira’s girlfriend, the Real WAGs were all eager to explore the corner of Germany known as “Europe's supermarket”. It’s not by chance that all the members of the group asked Lena to take them to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch.

Clarisse, defender Marcelo’s wife, had told the group about the special, delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Clarisse had the chance to enjoy the food when she accompanied her husband to attend the 2008 Beijing Olympics and visited Vietnam. During her stay in Vietnam, although Clarisse tasted just a few dishes, she fell in love with Vietnamese food immediately.

When the Real Madrid WAGs met in Munich, Clarisse’s idea to eat Vietnamese food was approved by all members. They felt very curious about how delicious the food was.

More sauce, please

They reached Thuy’s restaurant on Senserstrasse street near Lindwurmstrasse Avenue the Real Madrid players were competing. The restaurant is decorated in a special and romantic style with the picture of a Vietnamese girl holding a conical hat, and paintings hung on the wall next to banana trees and orchids. It is one of the favourite restaurants of overseas Vietnamese in Munich.

They ordered Bank Cuon (rolled pancake), a traditional Vietnamese dish. Carlota, wife of Arbeloa, took a piece and chewed immediately. After swallowing, Carlota said, “Nothing special,” upon which Clarisse replied: “You’re not eating it the proper way. It must be eaten with a special sauce.”

Clarisse then guided her friends how to eat the rolled pancake with the tasty sauce. All of them found it interesting to use chopsticks, though it was very difficult to pick up the rolls. They were all excited and liked the Vietnamese pancake, and even called for extra sauce, which they said was very special and tasty.

Learning to cook Vietnamese dishes

Another dish that attracted the Real WAGs was Nem Ran (fried spring rolls). They also could not forget Com (boiled rice) eaten with Ca Kho To (stewed fish), and Com Rang Thap Cam (fried rice with meat, vegetables and spices).

Some even wanted to try cooking Vietnamese dishes. Finally, they took photos outside the restaurant and promised to come back soon.

Sara Carbonero, a member of the group, said she would find someone who could cook Vietnamese dishes on her upcoming wedding.

Caroline Celico, Kaka’s wife, who seemed to be the best cook of the group, said: “I will learn how to cook at least two Vietnamese dishes.”

“If you can cook Vietnamese food, we will open a restaurant in Brazil," Clarisse replied with a smile.
