Thailand, Russia secure cooperation pacts

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev witnessed the signing of pacts on bilateral cooperation in military, anti-money laundering and oil exploitation in Saint Petersburg on May 18. 

The agreements were inked as part of their talks on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN summit from May 19-20. 

At the meeting, both leaders agreed to lift two-way trade revenue from US$2.3 billion in 2015 to US$10 billion in the next five years. 

They also discussed tourism. 

The Thai PM called for Russian investments in Thailand where they will be offered preferential taxation and other incentives. 

He also requested the European country import more Thai farm produce, which the Government is working to ensure safety standards on. 

A Thailand-Russia business dialogue also took place in Saint Petersburg.
