Singapore, US sign deal to reinforce aviation safety
Singapore and the US have signed an aviation maintenance agreement in an attempt to reinforce civil aviation safety while reducing the cost of inspections for aircraft repair work.
It is the first agreement in the field for the US in the Asia Pacific.
The document was signed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on the sidelines of the ongoing Singapore Airshow.
Accordingly, the two sides will accept each other's safety regulatory requirements and mutually recognise procedures for the approval and monitoring of aircraft maintenance organisations.
The agreement is expected to cut significant costs and save time, as well as eliminate the duplication of inspections in both countries. This is the second agreement concluded under the US-Singapore Bilateral Safety Agreement signed in 2004. The first one provided mutual recognition of airworthiness for civil aeronautical products.
