Singapore prosecutes 6 Bangladeshis for terrorism

Six Bangladeshis were prosecuted for financing terrorism in Singapore on May 27, the first to be charged under the Terrorism (Suppression of Financing) Act (TSOFA) in the city state.

They were charged for providing and collecting property for terrorist purposes. Of these six, two will also be charged for possession of property for terrorist purposes.

According to the Singapore Police, these six people were among a group of eight Bangladeshi nationals detained under the Internal Security Act in April 2016.

The group, which self-proclaims as Islamic State in Bangladesh, was formed in March this year by Rahman Mizanur who was among the six prosecuted people.

The police said Singapore will carry out firm and stiff penalties against any person who provides, collects or possesses property, for terrorist purposes.
