Russia hosts East Sea seminar

VOV.VN - The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted a seminar in Moscow on October 7 reviewing the East Sea situation following the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands, on the Philippines' lawsuit against China.

Ten presentations looked into the significance of the ruling, international response to the ruling, its impacts on regional economic development and security, and Russia’s view over East Sea disputes.

Participants agreed that though China didn’t accept the PCA’s ruling, the situation has not been worsened and claimants, including China, have shown willingness for negotiations to settle their disputes.

They held that the PCA’s ruling has had more positive impacts on the situation in the East Sea than previous predictions.

Dmitry Mosyakov, Director of the Centre for Southeast Asian, Australian, and Oceanian Studies under the Institute reiterated Russia’s neutral stance, adding that Russia urges related parties to address disputes by peaceful means, without the threat or use of force.
