Philippines, US carry out military drill

A joint landing military exercise between the Philippines and the US, called Philippines Amphibious Landing Exercise 33 (or PHIBLEX), was launched on October 4. 

The drill which involves up to 2,000 troops, takes place on northern Luzon and Palawan islands of the Philippines until October 12. 

At least 1,400 US marines based in southern Okinawa islands of Japan and 500 Philippine troops participate in this year’s drill, reported by the US Embassy in Manila last month.
