Philippines Navy receives third frigate from US

The naval force of the Philippines has officially received its third Del Pilar Class Frigate (DPCF) from the United States at the US Coast Guard (USCG) Base in Alameda, California.

According to a statement by the Philippine Navy, the ship, a former USCG Boutwell, was handed over to Philippine officials on July 21.

The crew will undergo training in preparation for their three-month voyage departing the US in October.

According to the Philippine Navy, US President Barack Obama vowed to give the Philippines a ship during his visit to the country in November 2015 on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leader’s Summit.
