Philippine President meets with MNLF leader
President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte met with the leader of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Nur Misuari at the presidential palace on November 3.
The meeting was held after the Supreme Court of the Philippines suspended an arrest warrant for Misuari, in an effort to promote national reconciliation.
President Duterte said suspending the warrant allows him to discuss peace process and measures to tackle the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group with the MNLF leader.
Duterte has refused to negotiate with Abu Sayyaf.
Nur Misuari founded MNLF in 1969. He had been on the run since September 2013 after being accused of leading a bloody revolt.
Although he has no links with Abu Sayyaf, Misuari has helped negotiate the release of some hostages from the group.
