Myanmar President proposes to change Aung San Suu Kyi’s portfolios

Myanmar’s new President Htin Kyaw on April 4 submitted to the Union Parliament a proposal for changing two out of four portfolios held by Aung San Suu Kyi – leader of the ruling National League for Democracy.

Accordingly, Myo Thein Gyi was nominated to replace Aung San Suu Kyi as Minister of Education and Pe Zin Tun as Minister of Electric Power and Energy.

Meanwhile, Aung San Suu Kyi's other two portfolios, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the President's Office, remained unchanged.

President Htin Kyaw also sought to elect Tun Tun Oo as attorney-general and Maw Than as auditor-general.

The Myanmar parliament will adopt the appointments on April 5 if there is no objection before 18:00 on April 4.
