Malaysia: Ruling party holds congress to prepare for election

The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) ruling party organised a congress in Kuala Lumpur on December 1 to prepare for the general election.

The congress was attended by 44 observers representing 12 political parties from ASEAN member countries. The Vietnamese delegation to the event was led by Hoang Thi Hanh, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region.

The four-day congress will discuss how to ensure the success of the upcoming poll, deal with difficulties faced by UMNO, and develop the UMNO party.

More than 5,700 UMNO party members will hear political instructions from UMNO leaders.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also UMNO President, said the party is facing unprecedented challenges, calling on its members to exert every effort to win victory at the upcoming election.

Najib warned of risks in case a Government is led by the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

On this occasion, he spoke highly the role played by the Barisan Nasional coalition (BN) with UMNO as the key party. Najib said BN has significantly contributed to people’s prosperity over the past time.
