Japan helps Cambodia upgrade transport infrastructure
Japan approved the provision of loans and non-refundable grants worth a total US$181 million for Cambodian projects on transport infrastructure and mine clearance, according to Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry’s statement released on March 21 said the loans, valued at US$142 million, will be spent on upgrading the southern section of the National Road 5.
Meanwhile, the US$39 million aid is earmarked for renovating Chroy Changvar bridge and improving demining equipment.
The funding agreement was signed in Phnom Penh by Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Japanese Ambassador to the country Yuji Kumamaru, in the presence of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and visiting Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Masakazu Hamachi.
