Indonesia, Netherlands to reinforce business partnership

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Dutch counterpart Bert Koenders agreed to bolster their countries’ economic relations during a meeting in Jakarta on March 24.

The two ministers specifically concurred in tightening trade and investment partnerships, including in infrastructure development in Indonesia.

The bilateral meeting was held as part of the first Indonesia visit by the Dutch official since he took office in 2014.

The Netherlands, a comprehensive partner of Indonesia, ranked second and 15th among the European and global trade partners with the Southeast Asian country in 2015.

It is currently the fourth biggest investor there with US$1.31 billion poured into 421 projects.

The Netherlands is a traditional market of Indonesia, and both sides are encouraging more interactions between their entrepreneurs. Indonesia also expects more Dutch investments, especially in the maritime sector.

Indonesia’s main exports to the European country include palm oil, coconut oil, chemical products, animal food, tin, biodiesel, steel, leather footwear, TVs and rubber.

Meanwhile, the archipelago nation imports ships, stationery, milk and dairy products, processed food, digital data storage devices, food processing machinery, air conditioners and vaccines from the Netherlands.
