Indonesia: landslides, flash floods claim 10 lives

At least 10 people were killed after landslides and flash floods hit the Indonesian province of West Java on September 20-21, according to Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Management. 

The disasters also injured 30 people, left three missing and forced hundreds to evacuate. 

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the agency’s spokesman, said that flash floods at 1 am on September 21 in Garut district killed eight residents, injured 30 and left one missing. 

Meanwhile, landslides in Sumedang district late on September 20 buried two houses, leaving two dead and two others missing. 

Local authorities are conducting search and rescue missions, while hundreds of people have been evacuated to government buildings and military bases.
