Indonesia boosts ties with RoK, Russia

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will pay official visits to the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Russia from May 16 to 20, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said at a press conference in Jakarta on May 12.

At the invitation of his Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye, Widodo’s visit will focus on bilateral economic affiliations. 

He is scheduled to have talks with the Korean President, meet 20 leading local businesses, and speak at the Asian Leadership Conference themed “leadership and innovation”. 

Both sides are looking forward to signing a number of memoranda of understanding on cooperation. 

Trade ties with the RoK are expected to help Indonesia speed up its industrialisation . 

On May 18, Widodo will leave for Russia to attend the ASEAN-Russia summit in Sochi and hold bilateral talks with foreign partners. 

Derry Aman, Director of the Dialogue Partners and inter-ASEAN Affairs Department under the Foreign Ministry, said Indonesia and Russia are set to discuss cooperation on counterterrorism and transnational crime.
