Indian PM appreciates relations with Myanmar
Myanmar holds a unique position in India's neighbourhood, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a joint press conference after his meeting with visiting Myanmar President Htin Kyaw on August 29.
The Indian PM affirmed that longstanding cultural and historical linkages between the two countries form a solid foundation of the bilateral ties between the two nations.
He said his country will engage with Myanmar to invest in and support projects in connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare and other sectors.
During the press conference, the two countries’ leaders witnessed the signing of four agreements, including those on the construction of 69 bridges on the highway connecting India, Myanmar and Thailand and cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
This is the first visit India by the Myanmar President since the National League for Democracy (NLD) came to power in March this year.
Prior to the meeting with PM Modi, Htin Kyaw met with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
