China, Malaysia reach important defence deal
China and Malaysia have signed 14 cooperation agreements worth 143.64 billion ringgit (US$34.4 billion), including an important defence deal.
Under the deal, Malaysia agreed to purchase four naval vessels from China. The vessels are small craft that operate close to the shore, two of which will be built in China and the others will be constructed in Malaysia, reported state media of Malaysia.
Along with the defence agreement, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and his visiting Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak also witnessed the signing of deals on business and many other areas during their meeting on November 1.
Earlier the same day, the Malaysian PM arrived in Beijing to start his week-long official visit to China.
