China bolsters partnership with Laos
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in Beijing on December 1, vowing to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
At the meeting, President Xi lauded the development of China-Laos ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations 55 years ago. He proposed promoting close exchanges between leaders of both countries on major issues.
The Chinese President affirmed that Beijing is willing to bolster exchanges and cooperation with Laos in matters including security and law enforcement as well as to strengthen coordination with the Southeast Asian nation in frameworks like China-ASEAN cooperation, the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism and the United Nations.
The Lao Prime Minister spoke highly of China’s role in maintaining regional peace and stability, saying Laos is committed to deepening ties between the two countries’ parties and states.
Laos will work closely with China on regional and international affairs and promote stronger ASEAN-China relations, he added.
Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith is visiting China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.
