China, ASEAN adopt guidelines to address emergencies at sea

China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) adopted a set of guidelines for their senior diplomats' hotline to address emergencies at sea at the 19th meeting of their leaders in Vientiane, Laos on September 7. 

Both sides also issued a joint statement declaring that they agree on the application of the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES), and an international agreement reached in 2014 to reduce chances of maritime incidents in the East Sea. 

They also released two joint statements on the leaders' meeting marking the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue partnership, and on bilateral production capacity cooperation.
