Int'l seminar finds peaceful solutions to East Sea disputes
VOV.VN - On September 1, more than 60 scholars and experts from ASEAN member states gathered for the second international seminar in Jakarta, Indonesia aiming to seek peaceful solutions to the East Sea disputes from the regional grouping's perspective.
The event, hosted by the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies, covered three sessions dealing with the current status of the East Sea, ASEAN and the East Sea, and peaceful solutions to the East Sea disputes.
In his opening speech, head of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s Policy Analysis and Development Agency Siswo Pramono called on ASEAN member countries to reinforce solidarity for common development goals amidst complicated developments in the East Sea
Associate Professor Ralf Emmers from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore said the East Sea issue is one of the major topics for discussion at the forthcoming 28 th and 29 th ASEAN Summit in Laos.
It is the first time ASEAN and world leaders to meet bilaterally following the ruling issued by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Netherlands on July 12, Ralf Emmers said while stressing the need for ASEAN member states to play a constructive role in settling the East Sea disputes by staying united and having a common voice.
