Cambodian Prime Minister fixes national election day

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on August 8 said the next national election will take place on July 29, 2018.

In a televised speech, PM Hun Sen stated that because “the Constitution stipulates that the term of the National Assembly (NA) is five years, the NA will not be dissolved ahead of the end of the tenure, unless the government is dissolved twice within 12 months. I’m ready to declare July 29, 2018 is the election day.”

PM Hun Sen called on Cambodian people to register for the local elections on June 4, 2017 and the 2018 national election.

Cambodia holds a national election every five years. In the election on July 28, 2013, PM Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party won 68 seats out of 123 seats in the NA.
