Vietnam-Cambodia religious cooperation under review

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia have compared notes on religious affairs while reviewing the implementation of their bilateral religious cooperation agreement signed last year during the Vietnam visit by Cambodian Minister of Cults and Religion Him Chhem.

Both sides shared their experience in state management of religious affairs at the talks on August 2 between a delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion and a delegation from Vietnam’s Government Committee for Religious Affairs.

Those in attendance were Minister Him Chhem and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Trong Thua, who is also in charge of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, and Vice Chairman of the Government Committee of Religious Affairs Bui Thanh Ha, among others, from the two agencies.

Under the agreement between the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion, the two sides are encouraged to intensify exchange visits in addition to activities for experience exchange in religious affairs and cooperation between the two nations’ Buddhist sects.

They underlined the need  to step up cooperation in personnel training and support Buddhist practices and highlighted the results of bilateral cooperation, which have contributed to consolidating the time-honoured relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and the ties between the two nations’ Buddhist churches.

During the visit to Vietnam August 1-5, the Cambodian Minister of Cults and Religions paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Home Affairs and leaders of the People’s Committees of Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
