Cambodia: Supreme Court to interrogate opposition leader

The Supreme Court of Cambodia will open an interrogation session on Interim Chairman of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha on October 28.

This is the content in the summons order from the deputy director of the Department of General Prosecution Uk Kim Sithy signed on October 4.

The order required Kem Sokha to appear at the Cambodian Supreme Court at 8h (local time) on October 28 to be questioned on the dossiers of the case No. 50 on September 8 under which Kem Sokha was accused of ignoring summons order under the Article 538 of the Cambodian Penal Code.

Som Sok Kung, the lawyer representing Kem Sokha, said he will attend the interrogation but the lawyer did not indicate if Kem Sokha will attend or not.

On the afternoon of September 9, the Phnom Penh Appellate Court sentenced Kem Sokha five months in jail and fined him 800,000 Riel (around US$200) for ignoring the summons order.

Earlier, Kem Sokha twice ignored summons orders from the Phnom Penh Appellate Court on May 27 and 25 and has hidden in the CNRP headquarters from May 26 to oppose decisions of the court relating to his scandal with a female hairdresser who sued him.
