Cambodia marks decade of UN peacekeeping participation

Cambodia will continue joining peacekeeping operations in countries when there are requests from the United Nations, Prime Minister Hun Sen said.

Addressing a ceremony to mark the country’s 10-year achievements in UN peacekeeping activities held in Phnom Penh on March 1, PM Hun Sen highlighted Cambodia’s contributions for the sake of world peace.

Over the past decade, Cambodian troops joining UN peacekeeping operations have successfully fulfilled their tasks, including landmine clearance, infrastructure construction and health care, which have been hailed by international community, he said.

The Cambodian Prime Minister took this opportunity to thank other countries, including Thailand, the US and Vietnam, for their helps in language and professional training in order to carry out UN peacekeeping missions.

Since 2006, 3,557 Cambodian troops have joined the UN peacekeeping missions in African countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic and Mali. Four of them were killed and five others wounded during their missions.
