ADMM-Plus military drill undergoing in Brunei
The Maritime Security and Counter Terrorism Exercise began with an opening ceremony on May 3 at the Multi National Coordination Centre in Brunei’s capital of Bandar Seri Begawan.
The exercise, the first of its kind under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM-Plus) mechanism, is hosted by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the Singapore Armed Forces from May 1 to 12.
It is a multilateral exercise which aims to enhance military cooperation between participating countries in responding to maritime threats.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Commander of the RBAF Mohd Tawih hoped that the exercise would help reduce tension, enhance trust and build deeper cooperation among participating countries.
Following the launch of the exercise, the RBAF commander, senior officials and personnel from participating ADMM-Plus countries were taken for a tour of the Exercise Control Centre in Multi National Coordination Centre.
The ADMM-Plus mechanism was proposed and founded by the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting, with the purpose of enhancing mutual trust and cooperation between the ASEAN and relevant countries in the Asian-Pacific region, and jointly responding to transnational non-traditional security challenges.
It is a platform for the ASEAN member nations and its eight dialogue partners – Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the US.
