Workshop seeks to attract foreign travelers back to Vietnam
VOV.VN - Local and foreign experts and travel operators are expected to put forward solutions aimed at luring back foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam, at a workshop held by (Dau Tu) Investment newspaper in Hanoi on March 22.
The tourism industry has set a target of welcoming eight million foreign arrivals in 2023, a challenging target compared to nearly 3.7 million recorded in 2022. The figure is likely to be achieved or even higher if viable solutions are put in place, according to experts.
Vietnam has launched tourism stimulus programmes, including ‘Live fully in Vietnam’ targeting international markets since it reopened the door for foreign travelers on March 15, 2022.
By the end of 2022, the number of domestic holidaymakers rose to 101.3 million, up 68% compared to the plan, while only nearly 3.7 million foreign arrivals were recorded, meeting 70% of the plan.
Statistics show Vietnam welcomed approximately 1.8 million foreign arrivals in the first two months of this year, an increase of 36.6 times compared to the same period last year, but still less than 60% compared to the same period in 2019 before COVID-19 broke out.
Among other issues, inefficient visa policy is considered a bottleneck that should be removed if Vietnam wants to attract large numbers of foreign visitors to pre-pandemic levels.
