Workshop discusses smart and sustainable tourism development in Mekong region

VOV.VN - A workshop themed “Smart and Sustainable Tourism Development in Thua Thien Hue Province" was held in Hue on March 7, creating a platform for travel operators to share practical experience and opportunities to develop sustainable and smart tourism.

The event was held as part of the project to develop smart and sustainable tourism in the Mekong region funded by the Mekong – the Republic of Korea (RoK) Cooperation Fund.

Delegates were given the chance to share their approach to smart tourism, especially connecting destinations of the former imperial cities of the Mekong region, said Nguyen Van Phuc, director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Tourism.

Several affiliate programmes aimed at introducing tourist destinations and supporting each other among international tourism markets, especially the RoK market, were examined during the event, he added.

The workshop also provided an ideal venue for the RoK and the countries of the Mekong region to strengthen cooperation and linkages between, thereby helping participants to gain greater insights into the tourism market and experiences in developing sustainable tourism through activities among historical and cultural cities in the region.

At the function, Madhurjya Kumar Dutta, director of Trade and Investment Facilitation at the Mekong Institute (MI), underscored the importance of using technology through mobile apps to promote tourism in the Mekong sub-region.
