Vietnamese tourists to Japan hit all-time high last year
VOV.VN - The number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan in 2024 reached a new record of 621,100, up 8.2% compared to the previous year and up 25.5% from 2019, the time before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).
This remarkable figure comes amid Japanese tours always being competitive in terms of costs and visa procedures compared to other destinations in Southeast Asia, the Republic of Korea, and China.
Most notably, the number of Vietnamese visitors to the East Asian nation increased steadily every month, which shows the keen interest of Vietnamese tourists in heading to Japan.
However, most Japanese tours focus on major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, raising concerns about overcapacity due to an influx of tourist numbers.
Moving forward, the JNTO plans to introduce other localities in Japan instead of major cities in a bid to help Vietnamese holidaymakers explore the unique features of each region from north to south, as well as experiencing each season of the year in Japan.
Moreover, the World Expo event will take place in April in Osaka for about six months, with the event expected to attract a large number of visitors from various countries around the world, especially from Vietnam.
The number of international visitors to Japan in 2024 reached 36,869,900, up 47.1% over the previous year.
The majority of visitors to this lucrative market come from East Asian and Southeast Asian nations, including Vietnam, as well as European countries, the United States, Australia, and the Middle East.
