Vietnamese passport slides to 91st place on Henley Passport Index
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese passport has dropped one spot to 91st on the list of the world’s most powerful passports, according to the latest report by the Henley Passport Index.
The index indicates that people holding a Vietnamese passport can either travel without a visa or by obtaining an e-visa, visa on arrival, or ETA (electronic travel authorization) to 51 out of the world's 199 countries and territories.
Some countries and territories that Vietnamese citizens can enter without a visa or they can get an e-visa or visa on arrival include Barbados, Bolivia, Brunei, Burundi, Cambodia, the Cape Verde Islands, Chile, the Comoro Islands, the Cook Islands, Djibouti, Dominica, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Iran, Indonesia, Malawi, Malaysia, the Maldives, Panama, the Philippines, Suriname, Taiwan (China), Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Tuvalu.
Singapore continued to hold the title of the most powerful passport in the world, with its citizens enjoying visa-free access to 195 countries and territories.
Laos ranked 93rd and Myanmar was placed 94th.
Meanwhile, all other countries in Southeast Asia rank above Vietnam, with their positions ranging from 51 to 89.
In contrast, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan were all listed as having the world's weakest passports.
The Henley & Partners ranking makes use of data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains a large travel information database. Published since 2006, it ranks 199 global passports based on the number of destinations that their holders can enter without a prior visa. Updated in real-time throughout the year as visa policy changes take effect, the index has become a widely recognised tool for assessing global mobility.
