Vietnamese ice coffee named among best rated coffees in the world
VOV.VN - The nation’s unique ice coffee has been hailed as one of the best rated coffees in the world, according to TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants around the world.
The renowned international food magazine granted Vietnamese ice coffee a total of 4.6 out of 5 stars, equivalent to Ristretto of Italy.
Due to its ranking, the two delicious drinks share the top spot.
According to TasteAtlas, Vietnamese iced coffee is a drink that combines strong coffee, condensed milk, and ice.
“It is traditionally made with medium or coarse ground Vietnamese-grown coffee, typically the Robusta variety, which is brewed using a drip phin filter—in which the coffee is brewed and then slowly dripped in the cup,” says the magazine.
It noted that the coffee is then poured over ice and mixed with condensed milk, whilst it is usually served in a tall glass.
TasteAtlas also revealed that although the drink is commonly made with condensed milk (ca phe sua da), there is also a version that combines only coffee and ice (ca phe da).
This comes after the famous food magazine also named four Vietnamese drinks among the top 50 most popular coffees in the world. The list included egg coffee (ca phe trung), Vietnamese yogurt coffee, Vietnamese iced coffee, and Robusta coffee.
Sharing first position with Vietnamese iced coffee is Ristretto of Italy, whilst is half of a single shot of espresso.
TasteAtlas shared that it differs from a standard espresso, not only in the amount of water used for its preparation, but also in flavour, which is less bitter than regular espresso.
Rounding off the list of TasteAtlas’s top 10 best rated coffees in the world were Frappe of Greece, Macchiato of Italy, Freddo cappuccino of Greece, Espresso freddo of Greece, Espresso of Italy, Turkish coffee, and Cortado of Spain.
