Vietnamese grilled banana among world’s most delicious desserts

VOV.VN - Culinary Journeys, a food programme that airs monthly on CNN International, has named the local dish chuoi nuong (grilled bananas) on its list of the nine best desserts in the world.

The programme aims to introduce viewers to the best dishes from around the world. In addition, people can also promote their own dishes by uploading images to Instagram and using the hashtag #CNNfood, with CNN’s culinary experts then choosing the best selection of entries to showcase.

According to CNN’s take on the popular Vietnamese dessert, chuoi nuong is a grilled dish made of banana, coconut milk, and sticky rice.

It also noted that the grilled banana is crispy, smoky, and fragrant, whilst it is best enjoyed with a lightly sweetened creamy coconut sauce and roasted peanuts.

“If you are new to Vietnamese snacks or dessert, this banana treat is a must to try. Visiting Vietnam? It can be easily found on sale from street vendors,” says CNN.

Grilled banana is a famous snack from the provinces in the Mekong Delta region, specifically Ben Tre. Simple yet rich in flavour, a down-to-earth plate of bananas grilled over coal emits a fruity, mellow, and sweet scent, a smell that is capable of luring in passersby. However, the grilled banana dish isn’t complete without a coconut milk dip, a specialty of the Mekong Delta region.

Other delicious desserts to make the list are sandesh of India, baklava of Turkey, chocolate brownies of Brazil, ice cream of Italy, chocolate-dipped strawberries of Frankfurt in Germany, blonde brownies of Qatar, Malva pudding of Africa, and cheesecake of Kenya.
