Vietnamese cuisines among Asia's top 100 best street foods

VOV.VN - Bánh Mì, Phở, Cơm Tấm, Chả Giò, and Bánh Xèo are five Vietnamese dishes to feature on the list of the 100 best Asian street foods by TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants around world.

According to details given by the website, Bánh Mì is a popular Vietnamese variety of sandwich which shares the same core ingredient of a baguette.

The dish claims third spot and usually contains ingredients like bread, meat, and seasonings.

In sixth position is Cơm Tấm (broken rice), a dish made from rice grains that are broken or imperfect.

TasteAtlas shared that when served, broken rice is accompanied by toppings such as fried eggs, shredded pork skin, or grilled pork chops.

Meanwhile, Phở (noodle soup), ranking 10th, is one of the most beloved Vietnamese dishes in the western hemisphere due to its complex and unique flavours, as well as its elegant simplicity.

“Although it is classified as a soup, Phở is served as the main course and the two bowls of it never taste the same. It is traditionally made with chicken or beef broth, where the bones simmer lazily for at least three hours until the broth is perfect,” says the website.

Fried spring rolls, known as Chả Giò in the south and Nem Rán in northern Vietnam, occupies 24th spot.

These rolls are characterised by their filling of pork, shrimp, and vegetables wrapped in rice paper.

Ranked in 43th, Bánh Xèo, is a crispy pancake filled with scallions, bean sprouts, shrimp, and pork or beef.

According to TasteAtlas, it's made from a rice flour batter blended with water, turmeric, and coconut milk which is fried, folded, and served with vegetables and herbs.

The pancake is pan-fried at a low temperature and gently folded in half, keeping the ingredients safely tucked inside the pancake.
