Vietnamese beef stew ranks among the world’s 100 best stews
VOV.VN - Bò kho (Vietnamese beef stew), a popular Vietnamese beef stew, has ranked 36th on TasteAtlas’ list of the world’s 100 best stews, making it the only Vietnamese representative in the ranking.
The international food guide published the list on October 15, awarding bò kho a score of 4.2 out of five. The rankings were based on 46,973 ratings, of which 27,537 were recognised by the platform as legitimate.
Bò kho can be enjoyed on its own, with a baguette or served over noodles. It is commonly accompanied by fresh herbs, according to TasteAtlas.
The dish typically features diced beef and carrots simmered in a rich, aromatic broth seasoned with lemongrass, cinnamon, chilli, pepper, garlic and shallots.
TasteAtlas noted that the origins of bò kho remain unclear, although the dish is believed to have been influenced by both Eastern and Western culinary traditions. In rural areas, it is generally spicier than versions served in cities.
Traditionally eaten for breakfast, bò kho is often garnished with chopped spring onions, coriander and onions.
Topping the ranking is seco de cabrito, a traditional Peruvian goat stew. Thailand’s phanaeng curry comes second, followed by Turkey’s hünkar beğendi, India’s murgh makhani and Japan’s karē.
