Vietnam tops list of affordable backpacker destinations in Southeast Asia
VOV.VN - Vietnam has been named the most budget-friendly destination for backpackers in Southeast Asia, according to Travel And Tour World (TTW), a global travel guide that recently published its list of top value-for-money travel spots in the region.

Vietnam topped the rankings with an impressive score of 40 out of 45, thanks to consistently low prices in accommodation, food, and transportation. TTW highlights the Southeast Asian country as an ideal choice for backpackers seeking extended stays without compromising experiences, offering unbeatable affordability across all essential travel categories.
TTW also reveals that Vietnam’s ultra-budget offerings include beer priced as low as VND22,000 (under US$1) per bottle, soft drinks available for VND11,000, public transport fares averaging only VND8,000 for a one-way trip, and hostel beds starting at an astonishingly low VND30,000 per night.
It praises Vietnam’s budget-friendly travel environment, noting that the low costs allow travellers to fully immerse themselves in the country’s rich culture, history, and natural beauty without stretching their budget. The combination of affordable lodging, inexpensive meals, and accessible local transport makes the country especially attractive to independent travellers and backpackers.
Elsewhere, Indonesia ranked second on the list, offering strong value for money particularly in terms of food and recreational activities. Thailand followed closely in third, recognized for its overall balance of affordability and tourism infrastructure.
Malaysia and Singapore rounded out the rankings. While they are considered more expensive destinations, both countries offer visa advantages, with extended visa-free stays of up to three months, longer than those currently available in Vietnam, Indonesia, or Thailand.
