United Airlines reopens flights to Vietnam

VOV.VN - United Airlines have announced plans to add daily flights to both Vietnam and Thailand this October, further expanding the network for the United States-based carrier that already has several routes to Asia, according to CNBC.

The American business news channel revealed that in the expansion, United Airlines airplanes from Los Angeles and San Francisco will head to Hong Kong (China), before then going on to the two new destinations, including Thailand’s Bangkok and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, with service set to begin on October 26.

United Airlines introduced tourists to several famous places in Vietnam such as the Opera House in Hanoi and the Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as delicious traditional cuisines.

United Airlines also announced other expansion plans in the Asia-Pacific region.

On October. 25, United Airlines plans to add a second daily nonstop flight from San Francisco to Manila of the Philippines. In addition, on December 11 it will launch nonstops from San Francisco to Adelaide of Australia which will operate three days a week.

CNBC added that the carrier has aggressively been adding far-flung destinations not served by rivals to its routes, like Nuuk in Greenland, and Bilbao in Spain, both of which will start later this year.

“Getting the mix right is especially important as carriers seek to grow their lucrative loyalty programs and need attractive destinations to keep customers spending,” it noted.

Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of network and global alliances at United Airlines, stressed that the carrier isn’t planning on cutting any international routes for its upcoming winter schedule.

Previously, in 2004, United Airlines became the first US airline to open direct flights to Vietnam using Boeing 747 aircraft.
