Tuy Hoa Airport to receive first international flight in November

Tuy Hoa Airport in the south-central province of Phu Yen is preparing to receive its first international flights in November, stated an official of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Dinh Viet Thang, head of the CAAV, said the authority was working with the relevant organizations to complete the necessary procedures to put into service the airport’s international route, with the first flight coming from Russia.

Currently, Tuy Hoa Airport serves only local routes, with 25 flights a week from the Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports, of which Vietnam Airlines has four flights, Vietjet Air has 14 and Jetstar has seven.

The airport is expected to see 430,000 passengers in 2018 and is projected to serve some 600,000 passengers by 2020, while its current designed capacity is around 550,000 passengers.

At a meeting with the Ministry of Transport on October 8, the government of Phu Yen Province asked the ministry to build an additional terminal to increase the airport’s capacity.

Transport Minister Nguyen Van The said the construction of the new terminal should have a long-term vision to avoid being overloaded soon after being put into operation.

The transport minister supported the launch of international flights to Tuy Hoa, noting that Phu Yen Province should have a synchronous plan for developing tourism products and services.

This is an important factor in maintaining these air routes as well as expanding international flights to Tuy Hoa in the future.
