Thua Thien-Hue to host National Tourism Year 2025
VOV.VN - The central province of Thua Thien-Hue will host both the National Tourism Year, alongside its branded Hue Festival, in 2025 with a total of 62 major programmes and events to take place during the year.
Nguyen Van Phuc, director of Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism, said that hosting the National Tourism Year 2025 aims to showcase and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage along with local distinctive features.
Its primary goal is to attract both domestic and international visitors, thereby helping to boost the tourism industry and contribute to local socio-economic development, said Phuc.
The highlight will be an opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year and the Hue Festival, as well as a grand fireworks display held to mark the 50th anniversary of Thua Thien-Hue's liberation. The event is slated to take place in late March 2025.
This marks the second time that Thua Thien-Hue province will host the National Tourism Year, following the 2013 edition. Hosting the event will help the locality to experience substantial growth in tourism, with notable increases in both visitor numbers and revenue.
Over the past nine months, Thua Thien-Hue welcomed nearly 3.1 million domestic and foreign visitors, up 26.7% against the same period last year. Of this figure, the locality received 996,300 foreign arrivals, marking a 33.6% rise year on year.
Hue is a city steeped in history and culture as the former imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty. Its Imperial City boasts majestic palaces and temples and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
So far, eight world heritage sites preserved by Thua Thien-Hue province have been recognised by UNESCO.
