Taiwan relaxes travel restrictions for Vietnamese businesspeople

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on March 24 announced the relaxation of travel restrictions for entrepreneurs from Vietnam and Singapore, which are at a low risk of COVID-19 infection.

Vietnamese entrepreneurs will be quarantined for only five days instead of 14 after entering Taiwan, Lao Dong Online reported.

At a press briefing on March 24 Head of CECC Chen Shih-chung said that Vietnam and Singapore had met Taiwan’s requirements and criteria to be listed as low-risk countries for two consecutive weeks.

Since March 1, entrepreneurs entering Taiwan from low-risk countries or territories will be quarantined for only five days, while others from medium-risk countries have to remain in quarantine for seven days.

Over the past two weeks, most COVID-19 cases reported in Vietnam have been imported ones, while other locally-transmitted cases had been quarantined before testing positive, said Chen.

To be eligible for a shortened quarantine period in Taiwan, Vietnamese entrepreneurs have to meet four requirements, including a declaration from CECC that they can enter Taiwan. Besides, their stay should be fewer than three months.

The third requirement is that they must be guaranteed by a Taiwanese firm to travel to the country. Lastly, they should only depart from a country or territory with low to medium risks of COVID-19 and should not have visited any country 14 days before flying to Taiwan.

In addition to COVID-19 tests that need to be taken three days before boarding, the Vietnamese businesspeople have to present negative COVID-19 test results endorsed by healthcare facilities.
