Similan islands national park welcomes a great number of visitors

The Similan Islands National Park, which comprises a group of islands in the Andaman Sea, off Thai Mueang district, Phang-nga province, has collected the highest income since its establishment in 1982.

Chief of the Similan Islands National Park Ruamsin Manajongprasert said that because of the popularity of this group of islands, the park has welcomed a great number of visitors, especially international tourists.

In January this year, the Similan Islands National Park collected 57 million baht in entrance fee. The amount in February came to more than 60 million baht. From October 2016 to February 2017, this national park collected a total of 201 million baht in entrance fees, the highest in 35 years.

The Similan Islands National Park covers an area of 128 square kilometers. It is also rich in marine life, consisting of coral reefs, crystal clear waters, and white beaches. This area is regarded as one of the best diving sites in the world.

In addition to the wonders of the sea, the Similan Islands are habitat of terrestrial and avian wildlife. They are world-renowned for their pristine natural environments above the sea and in their underwater surroundings.

About 90 kilometers from the Patong beach pier in Phuket, the Similan group of Islands has been a magnet for divers, while the coral reefs are reputed to be the most colorful and diverse in Thailand.

The Similan group of islands was declared Thailand’s 43rd national park in 1982. The national park is open for tourism from November to April and is closed from May to October each year.
