Record number of visitors to Sa Pa resort during New Year holiday
VOV.VN - The resort town of Sa Pa in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai received approximately 65,000 arrivals over three days during the New Year holiday, equivalent to 95% against last year’s figure and setting a record despite fears surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to Hoang Thi Vuong, head of Sa Pa town’s culture and information division, the occupancy rate at local hotels and guest houses was at 98%.
Due to the high demand, at some points over the New Year holiday Sa Pa town ran out of hotel rooms for tourists, forcing tourists to stay in hotels in Lao Cai city, 30km away from Sa Pa itself, Vuong said.
She added that the majority of tourists visiting the cultural town came from either the central or southern regions, who wanted to enjoy the cold weather of the northern region.
Most notably, the Sun World Fansipan Legend tourism site in Sa Pa town recorded a huge number of visitors over the three-day period, increasing twice the amount compared to the same period last year.
With New Year holiday falling on the weekend, tourists enjoyed three consecutive days off, a main factor behind the sudden increase in arrivals to Sa Pa, Vuong explained.
