Two Vietnamese train journeys rank among world’s best in 2026
VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese train journeys have been named among the world’s 20 best rail experiences in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, with the Central Heritage Connection between Hue and Da Nang ranking 10th and The Vietage by Anantara taking 14th place.
The Central Heritage Connection, which began operating in March 2024, offers a roughly three-hour journey between the historic cities of Hue and Da Nang, showcasing some of central Vietnam’s best-known landscapes, including Tam Giang–Cau Hai Lagoon, Lang Co Bay and Hai Van Pass.
According to the US travel magazine, the service offers a choice of quiet carriages for relaxation and two community carriages featuring live performances of traditional music and dance. With a one-way fare of around US$11, it is also the most affordable journey on the list.
Ranked 14th, The Vietage by Anantara is a luxury rail service connecting Da Nang, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang along Vietnam’s central coast. The journey takes passengers past rice fields, rural villages and coastal mountains, combining scenic views with premium dining and onboard services.
The six-hour journey from Da Nang to Quy Nhon includes a three-course meal inspired by Vietnamese and French cuisine. On the Quy Nhon–Nha Trang route, passengers can enjoy afternoon tea accompanied by local caviar, Vietnamese cheeses and premium teas.
Condé Nast Traveler describes the service as a seamless and flavourful way to travel between destinations in central Vietnam, offering an alternative to air travel while allowing passengers to appreciate the landscapes along the way.
Topping the 2026 list is the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Europe, followed by Rovos Rail in Southern Africa and Rocky Mountaineer in North America. The Golden Eagle Danube Express in Europe and Andean Explorer, A Belmond Train, in Peru round out the top five.
