Passenger numbers increase sharply nationwide

VOV.VN - The opening of several air routes connecting various localities across the country has seen the number of passengers increase rapidly, with the previous week seeing a 27% rise in comparison to the same period last year.

A representative from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam stated that from July 13 to July 20, local airlines conducted over 5,900 flights, marking a year-on-year increase of 21%.

Moreover, domestic carriers also transported 1.1 million passengers, representing a boost of 27%, with the average seat occupancy ratio reaching between 85% and 90%.

This sudden increase in passenger numbers can be attributed to increasing demand for travel during the summer, coupled with the opening of several new domestic air routes.

Currently, local airlines operate more than 70 domestic routes, an increase of roughly 30 routes on-year.

Furthermore, Vietnam Airlines is now regularly conducting between 400 and 500 flights per day, a rise of roughly 10% compared to the first half of July.

Most notably, the airline utilises the wide-body aircraft to double the number of seats due to a reduced number of landing slots at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports as a result of repair work being done on their runways.

The past week saw the on-time performance (OTP) ratio of Vietnamese airlines reach an average of 85%.

With repair works on the runways of Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports getting underway during the first week of July, the OTP of local airlines was reduced to between only 50% and 60%.

Due to a sharp increase in passenger numbers during the summer season, passengers have been advised to closely monitor relevant information and arrive at airports at least two hours before their scheduled departure time in order to complete all necessary procedures ahead of boarding.

In addition, passengers are encouraged to make use of self check-in kiosks or utilise online check-in as a means of saving time for check-in procedures.
