National forum seeks to promote green tourism in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism opened the country’s annual Green Tourism Forum in Lam Dong province on December 5, calling for stronger action to develop sustainable and responsible travel amid growing climate risks.

The December 4-5 event, held at the Nui Voi Pine Forest tourism site in Hiep Thanh commune, gathered more than 100 delegates from government agencies, research institutions, tourism associations, local businesses and experts from Switzerland.

The forum aims to raise awareness and encourage stronger participation from tourism stakeholders and local communities in advancing green tourism practices.

Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said sustainable and responsible tourism has become an inevitable trend and mandatory requirement for Vietnam.

“The government has already approved a green growth strategy for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050,” Khanh said. “The forum is of great significance as the tourism industry must meet both stronger growth targets and requirements for sustainability and responsibility.”

As part of the forum’s programme, participants conducted field visits to local green tourism models, including biodiversity routes and the 108-tree heritage pine forest at Bidoup Nui Ba National Park. Two panel discussions were scheduled for December 5, focusing on models, initiatives and policies for green destinations in Vietnam, and a proposed action framework for green tourism in the current context.

The forum was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam (ST4SD) project.
