Luxury cruises set sail in Bai Tu Long Bay

As part of efforts to boost tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay and realise Quang Ninh province’s goal to transform Van Don into a premium destination, two luxury cruise ships officially began operations on May 5, offering high-end travel experiences in the bay.

The launch follows the province’s March announcement of seven new tour routes in Bai Tu Long Bay, designed to ease tourist pressure on Ha Long Bay and promote the development of high-quality tourism offerings.

The two vessels, named Crystal Holidays 991 and Crystal Holidays 992, are capable of accommodating 99 passengers each. They are the first in a planned fleet of day and overnight cruise ships developed by Everland Group for Bai Tu Long Bay.

Operating under the brand "The Beauty of Van Don", the cruises offer three itineraries departing from Ao Tien Port, taking travellers to pristine destinations where they can explore local culture, join fishing activities, and admire the bay’s spectacular natural scenery.

Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasised the significance of the new cruises and itineraries in advancing the province’s strategy to establish Van Don as a leading tourism hub. The routes connect key attractions such as Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung, and Ban Sen islands, helping to build a diverse and appealing tourism offering.

With well-developed transport infrastructure, including expressways, an international airport, and deepwater ports, Quang Ninh is well positioned to support premium tourism services, especially overnight cruises on Bai Tu Long Bay, which is emerging as a new highlight for visitors.

The provincial government has also called on businesses to continue investing and expanding links to nearby island districts such as Mong Cai, Cam Pha, and Co To, further enhancing Van Don’s appeal.

Nguyen Thuc Can, CEO of Everland Group, said Bai Tu Long Bay and Van Don possess vast tourism potential. Everland is building a comprehensive tourism ecosystem of accommodation, tour operations, transport, and supporting services. The company plans to expand its cruise fleet in response to visitor demand, with future offerings possibly including 200-seat vessels and floating restaurants.

Situated adjacent to the renowned Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognised World Natural Heritage site, Bai Tu Long Bay is home to over 600 islands and islets, unspoiled beaches, and rich marine biodiversity. It also houses Bai Tu Long National Park, an ASEAN Heritage Park known for preserving rare genetic samples of native flora and fauna. These features make the bay a prime destination for eco-tourism.
