Korean tourists to Sa Pa surge 333% year on year

VOV.VN - Tour bookings to Sa Pa, a major tourist resort in northern Vietnam, from the Republic of Korea soared in the first half of 2025, with a staggering 333% year-on-year increase, according to Hana Tour, the RoK’s largest travel agency.

The growth was especially striking in January, when bookings spiked by over 1,100% compared to the same month in 2024, setting a new record for inbound Korean tourism to the popular mountain resort in Lao Cai province.

Hana Tour attributed the sharp rise to Sa Pa’s stunning mountain landscapes, year-round cool climate, and rich indigenous culture—all of which appeal strongly to Korean travelers. The destination’s growing popularity has also been fueled by exposure on digital entertainment platforms, video-sharing sites, and social media, particularly among younger generations.

A Hana Tour representative noted that Sa Pa is rapidly emerging as a favoured getaway for Korean tourists. Bookings for the third quarter are projected to quadruple from the same period last year.

To meet rising demand, the agency has introduced a signature travel package called the “Fansipan WOW PASS,” which offers visitors a full experience of Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina, via the iconic cable car and monorail system.

The five-day Hanoi–Sa Pa tour package also includes must-visit locations such as Cat Cat village, Muong Hoa Valley, and the region’s iconic terraced rice fields, giving Korean travelers a wide variety of cultural and natural attractions to explore.

Situated over 1,500 meters above sea level, Sa Pa is often referred to as the “Switzerland of Vietnam” for its cool temperatures, spectacular scenery, and French colonial architecture. Its harmonious blend of nature and the cultural heritage of local ethnic minorities continues to make it a standout destination for international visitors, especially from Northeast Asia.
