Japan to issue e-visas to Vietnamese group tourists as of November 1

Under the new policy, Vietnamese citizens participating in package tour groups through designated travel companies or other authorised agents will be granted electronic visas.

The type of e-visa is specifically for short-term stay and single entry for tourism purposes within 15 days. It is only issued to Vietnamese passport holders living in Vietnam.

Upon arrival at the airport, visa applicants are required to present the "Visa issuance notice" displayed on their mobile phone screen.

According to travel companies, the new policy is expected to facilitate applications for group visas and will certainly attract more tourists, especially during the end-of-year period.

Simultaneously, the issuance of traditional visas which is normally carried out by Japanese representative agencies will remain in effect.

The Japan National Tourism Organization in Vietnam  reported that the number of Vietnamese visitors entering Japan in September reached 43,000, up 12.2% against the same period from 2019 and up 39.3% compared to the same period from last year.

During the nine-month period, 439,600 Vietnamese people travelled to Japan, representing an increase of 16.9% against the same period in 2019.
