Indonesia’s travel fair opens
The 2016 Kompas travel fairs opened in Jakarta on September 2 with an aim of promoting Indonesia’s tourism activities and offering attractive tourism packages to domestic and foreign destinations.
The annual event drew the participation of 22 travel agencies, hotels and 12 airlines, insurers and 115 exhibitors.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya emphasised the tourism sector needs to meet tourists’ increasing demands for its development.
At the three-day fair, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink offer a discount of at least 10% for some domestic flights while many travel agencies introduce preferential packages to visitors.
Foreign aviation agencies such as Singapore Airlines, Eva Air, China Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines, also sell promotional tickets for international flights.
A highlight of the event is an auction of air tickets for several international routes, including the Jakarta-Toyko route with the starting price at zero Rupiah.
