Hanoi welcomes over 2 million visitors during National Day holiday

Hanoi received around 2.08 million visitors during the four-day National Day holiday period from August 30 to September 2, three times higher than the figure in the same period last year, the municipal Department of Tourism reported.

Of the total, more than 80,000 were international travellers, up 35% year on year. Tourism revenue reached approximately VND4.5 trillion (about US$180 million), an increase of 80% compared to 2024.

The rising demand for travel and leisure pushed occupancy rates at 3- to 5-star hotels to high levels, with many fully booked on September 1. The average occupancy across hotels and serviced apartments reached 83%, up 22.6% from last year.

Accommodation and service providers were required to strictly comply with safety, fire prevention, hygiene, and food safety regulations.

The capital city celebrated the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with a wide range of cultural, artistic, and tourism promotion events. Highlights included the “Red Ba Dinh” programme, the double-decker “Hanoi Train” service, community activities in Bat Trang pottery village and Duong Lam ancient village, and the city’s open-top bus tours.

The exhibition of national achievements “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness,” held at the National Exhibition Centre in Dong Anh, alone attracted about 1.2 million visitors in just three days from August 28 to 31.

Major attractions also recorded sharp increases in visitors: Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Hanoi Zoo welcomed about 33,000 guests; Hoa Lo Prison relic site nearly 26,500; the Temple of Literature 18,000; and Ba Vi National Park more than 3,100. Central museums offering free entry from September 1–3 also drew large crowds.

A fireworks display at five locations, including Hoan Kiem Lake, Lac Long Quan Park, Van Quan Lake, Thong Nhat Park, and My Dinh National Stadium, alongside citywide cultural and artistic performances on September 2 further promoted Hanoi as a safe, welcoming, and attractive destination.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism emphasised that local destinations improved services, and ensured security, traffic safety, environmental hygiene, and food safety. No major incidents or negative cases were reported during the holidays.
