Hanoi sets sights on 8.6 million international visitors by 2026
VOV.VN - The Hanoi Department of Tourism organised a forum on December 17 outlining strategies to attract more than 8.6 million international visitors by 2026, a 10% increase compared to the estimated figure for 2025.
Addressing the event, Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, praised Hanoi’s recent achievements in the tourism sector and emphasised the city’s dual role as a destination and transit hub.
He encouraged the capital city to aim for 10 million international visitors annually and strengthen connections with key satellite destinations such as Ha Long, Ninh Binh, and Lao Cai. He suggested that Hanoi should better highlight its unique identity as the nation’s cultural and historical centre, develop tourism products with greater depth and quality, increase cultural value, and design market-specific offerings, with particular attention to high-spending visitor segments.
According to Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the capital plans to welcome over 35.8 million visitors in 2026, a 6.2% increase over 2025, including more than 8.6 million international tourists.
To boost international appeal, Hanoi will focus on quality growth, targeting tourists with longer stays and higher spending. Key markets include Northeast Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, India, and Muslim-majority countries.
Hanoi will continue to develop its signature tourism products in a more specialised and differentiated manner, with a strong emphasis on cultural and heritage tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, night-time economy, culinary tourism, and event-linked travel.
The city will also research and develop high-value souvenir products that reflect local identity, particularly fine handicrafts, to stimulate international visitor spending.
Digital transformation will be accelerated across the tourism sector, with technology applied to destination management, business support and visitor experience optimisation.
Hanoi will continue leveraging its role as a regional hub, promoting tourism linkages within the Hanoi–Quang Ninh–Ninh Binh, Hanoi–Lao Cai–Tuyen Quang, and Hanoi–Bac Ninh–Hung Yen corridors, while expanding cooperation with northern and northern coastal localities.
In 2025, Hanoi’s tourism sector continued to post strong growth, with all key indicators recording sharp increases and surpassing set targets. The capital is estimated to have welcomed over 33.7 million visitors during the year, up 20.87% year on year. Of this total, more than 7.82 million were international arrivals, an increase of 22.76% compared to 2024.
Tourism revenue in 2025 is estimated at over VND134.46 trillion, representing a 21.5% rise from the previous year.
