Hanoi says to resume tourist hotline following complaints

Hanoi's Tourism Department has pledged to resume a hotline to receive complaints from tourists, after several months of inactivity.

The hotline 0941.33.66.77 will operate around the clock soon, it said.

The department's director Do Dinh Hong said the hotline, launched in 2013, has been suspended since September last year, when the Tourism Department was separated from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Tourists stroll down a street in downtown Hanoi.

The media has raised questions about the hotline last month after many tourists complained that they failed to contact the agency to report rampant shoeshine scams targeting foreigners.
Many tourists said the hotline was inactive while the landline of the tourism department was always busy.
Apart from shoeshine scams, tourists in Hanoi are also concerned about taxi scams and rip-offs.
In a recent move, the tourism department has said that it will coordinate with local police to tackle such issues and set up tourist information counters to improve its image.
