Hanoi Opera House among top 6 most stunning architecture in Asia
VOV.VN - Hanoi Opera House in Vietnam's capital city has been named one of Asia’s 6 Best Architectural Gems by UK-based travel magazine Time Out.
According to the magazine, there are an estimated 3,000 examples of classic French colonial architecture in Hanoi, from Provencal-style villas and Gothic churches to neoclassical palaces that have become iconic public buildings.
Built in 1911, the Opera House stands as one of those must-see highlights landmarks in the capital. With enormous Gothic pillars and domes intentionally inspired by Paris’s iconic Opera Garnier, Time Out notes, the building is seen as the French Quarter’s colonial crown jewel.
“The opera house’s front hall welcomes guests with shimmering chandeliers and a stately staircase. Head upstairs to the mirror chamber, tiled with stones imported from Italy, or take in a show in the 900-seat performance auditorium featuring tall Corinthian columns and a grandiose crystal chandelier”, it describes.
It reveals that the performance schedule includes opera, chamber music, and drama. Ninety-minute tours going behind the scenes are available during the day, including a short live stage performance.
The Hanoi Opera House joins other architectural icons on Time Out’s list, including Singapore’s Esplanade, Hong Kong’s Jockey Club Innovation Tower, Indonesia’s Green School, Thailand’s Dragon Temple, and Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur Railway Station.
